Belle Mare Mauritius

Belle Mare consisted of no more than a few bungalows built in the 1920ís until the 1980ís when Belle Mare became inundated with hotels being developed along the beachfront. Belle Mareís long white sandy beach boasts a deep lagoon with a border of casuarinas trees, where visitors can lie back and relax and is ideal for lazy beach holidays.

Belle Mare does not offer many shops in the area, but the nearby Centre de Flacq market boasts reasonable prices and great bargaining. Belle Mare does offer a number of unique restaurants where guests can experience the freshest products. Le Veloutier is an a la carte restaurant overlooking the lagoon and serving only local cuisine. Le Beach Rendez-Vous is located on the beach and is a great place for lunch with fresh salads, sandwiches and open-fire grilled items.

As with the rest of the island, Belle Mare offers a great choice in water sports in the crystal clear azure seas including boating, sailing, fishing, surfing and snorkelling.
Sights in and around Belle Mare include Souillac which is definitely not a bathing spot but has a beautiful feature garden overlooking the see.
The Casela Bird Park stretches over 20 acres and is situated in the Black River district of Mauritius where visitors can enjoy an abundance of rare birds from the area.
A trip to Port Louis is a shoppers paradise, where you can find linen, tablecloths and jewellery. The basket work, an ancient activity of the island, is spectacular, and you can find anything from hats to rattan furniture made from aloe, vetivier, cane straws, raffia and bamboo.
